Raven & the Dove’s Debut Album
Released - 12th November, 2021

ABOUT THE ALBUM

Meet the famous, infamous and everyday folk that make a town and share in their stories - tall and true – of the beauty and the terror of this great southern land. Poetic lyrics evoke uniquely Australian imagery of the gothic bushlands of days gone by, yet the contemporary sound brings the music entirely into the present.

Inspired by local storytelling about their area, ‘The Valley’ introduces the famous, infamous and everyday folk that make a town and shares in their stories - tall and true – of the beauty and the terror of this great southern land. Poetic lyrics evoke uniquely Australian imagery of the gothic bushlands of days gone by, yet the contemporary sound brings the music entirely into the present.

Inspired by wide-ranging artistic influences the album is playful with genre; expect psychedelic spaghetti western, Shakespearian swamp blues and sweet pop beats as the icing on an already delicious cake of gothic country rock!

Not so much Americana as Australiana, The Valley is a folk album that celebrates story like the bush poets do; with some laconic Aussie humour amongst the wistfulness and grit that comes from living on this country.

A true collaboration, Cindy and David co-write all their music and lyrics together, inspiring and pushing each other to go beyond anything they could have done on their own.

David’s lead guitar work shines with catchy hooks and cool blues licks. His natural feel for rhythm holds the heartbeat of the song. Cindy’s unique timing, tuning and tremolo power-chords round out the sound. Her soulful, velvet vocals oscillate between bold melancholic tones and spirited jazzy highs. David’s voice conveys a soft power through his emotional, expressive delivery and a stirring vibrato. Together, their harmonies shine.

In partnership with their beloved band-mates (The Electric Empire) - Mike Park and Dominic Britten wrote bass and drum parts bring the songs alive with smooth rhythm and country soul. All recorded at East Gippsland’s Bruthen Music Recording Studio for Warrior Records with the multi-talented Brent Hodgkins at the controls.
